Can I Speak To Someone With Lived Experience Of Extremism?

Getting anyone to do an interview is hard, and the method of engagement doesn't matter -

be it 121 with no cameras, over the phone or with people silhouetted out etc. Simply put most people who have been personally impacted by extremism never want to do an interview and this is why we have Sarah, who is a mom who had a son involved in extremism and Nigel who is a former activist who speak about their experiences and what they know now because today both mentor people out of extremism and support families with a loved one involved,

so their knowledge is both unique and up to date.

To help people talk about their stories, we sometimes can get individuals whom our partners at Exit Hate Trust have helped to do Podcast interviews so that we can record their feelings and then they can get on with their lives. Exit Hate Trust podcasts can be found here -  https://open.spotify.com/show/6hWpIFWvzOAlAdlu8oIt71

Offering safe spaces, our partnership also gets people to write articles for Exit via their blog which can be found here- https://www.exithate.com/blog This allows people the freedom to express their feelings, without pressure.

To help researchers, journalists, teachers etc who really want to understand ERW (Extreme Right Wing) Extremism, people can use these resources, all of which we supply free to help people understand extremism so that we can look for answers, long-term.

I need some support with Engaging with Someone, can you help?

Working in partnership with the Exit Hate Trust, (charity number 1197666), Exit assists with mentoring support advice, from a lived experience perspective.

Exit Hate is made up of former extreme right-wing activists, plus family members who have had a loved one involved, so they get it, know what it's like to get involved, and also how people can close the door on extremism and rebuild a better life away from hate.

Handling all our mentoring advice requests, if you need advice about how to engage with someone from a lived experience perspective, then please speak to Exit Hate Trust directly by emailing - info@exithate.org or calling 0800 999 1945. Exit Hates office hours are Monday-Friday, 10-4 PM and for people unable to speak during these times, Exit offers email support.
