Reducing Extremism
Through Lived
Experience Training

Extremism Harms Everyone
Sometimes what looks like harmless fun to many, can be an open door to manipulation, hate, racism and extremism.

Extremists use people, and because of the internet that door is now open 24/7, 7 days a week.
Aware of how damaging and destructive extremism can be and how it hurts its victims,
extremism also hurts those who get involved, their families and the communities activists live in.
To try and reduce this, this website is dedicated to supporting people like you on the frontline -
to discuss, challenge and reduce extremism via education.

To help, this website is all about helping people understand extremism and have discussions about it.
Utilising the videos and other items on this website, please use them to have discussions about how they make people feel, what help could be given to people and what support individuals or your community could offer.

To start, we have two videos, the first will show you what extremism is and the second will show you
how young people can become recruited, how organisers operate and that there is support available.

Your Help Is Vital
Seeking to maximise people's abilities and skills, being honest, your help is vital to reducing extremism.
Educators, frontline staff and community activists all have a crucial part to play in reducing hate and extremism because you are the people who will see signs of radicalisation when talking to people and
be the ones to open doors to support.

Looking to reduce the appeal of extremism and the need felt by some for discussions with extremists,
we want to minimise this by upskilling people to create local safe spaces within our communities to
engage, talk, and have open conversations, so people do not feel the need to talk to extremists,
because they feel unheard or are scared because they fear being labelled racist or sexist.
Seeking to protect people who may be susceptible to extremist messaging and influence, we need to build buffers so people don't go to extremists to be heard, but can talk about their concerns and worries in a local safe environment,
where concerns can be voiced and mutual respect for all cultures can be fostered and promoted,
so fear and extremism can't grow and divide us, but how can this be done?

Maximising the resources on this website, we have created videos, which allow frontline staff and community activists to have something that will show how people become involved in extremism and the impact this has on people.

Using the videos we have dedicated pages for Young People and Parents which have specific videos which will help people learn more about extremism, its impact and what can be done to reduce extremism.
These specially created videos are there for you and can aid discussions and open conversations in our communities, so people do not need to speak to extremists to feel heard.

Added to this we also have various booklets and listed links to podcasts and blog articles, so there is plenty of information after discussions people can be signposted to for further information.

So What Is Extremism?
Extremism Can Impact
Any Household
Having looked at the information outlined you can see how people can be impacted by extremism and this can be any household.
Today there are no stereotypes as to who is an extremist.
They could be -

The Activist
Chris
It could be a young adult who spends time online and gets interested online in extremism and becomes an activist.

The Vulnerable
Alexa
Not everyone who gets involved with extremism is male, an increasing number are female, sometimes seeking protection of extremists because they have been hurt or abused by someone.

The Recruiter
Mark
It could be someone who has a good job, but away from work is an extremist recruiter who uses multiple profiles to trap people like Chris.

The Damaged
Neil
People don't just become racist or extreme, there has to be a need or a trigger. Often people who have suffered reach out to extremists because no-one is there for them.
* To protect the identity of people involved, models are often used in our publicity material and their inclusion does not indicate their political opinions
