Can I Speak To Someone With Lived Experience Of Extremism?
Getting anyone to do an interview is hard, and the method of engagement doesn't matter -
be it 121 with no cameras, over the phone or with people silhouetted out, etc.
Simply put, most people who have been personally impacted by extremism never want to do an interview and this is why we have dedicated spokespersons available like Sarah, who is a mom who had a son involved in extremism and Nigel who is a former activist who speak about their experiences and what they know now because today they both mentor people out of extremism and support families with a loved one involved, so not only do they have their own personal experiences, but also because of their mentoring support, their knowledge is up to date.
Protecting individuals involved, who have requested support, we have a dedicated sister charity called Exit Hate (1197666), who help people when they really need it.
On very rare occasions, some of those supported do want to talk about their stories, and to capture this, we do one-off podcast interviews, so that they can record their feelings and then move on with their lives. To find out more, please listen to Exit Hate's podcasts on Spotify here https://open.spotify.com/show/6hWpIFWvzOAlAdlu8oIt71
Offering safe spaces, our partnership also assists people to write articles for Exit via their blog, which can be found here- https://www.exithate.com/blog. This allows people the freedom to express their feelings, without pressure, in a supportive and safe environment.
To help researchers, journalists, teachers, etc., who really want to understand ERW (Extreme Right Wing) Extremism better, people can use these resources, all of which we supply free to help people understand extremism, so that we can look for answers, long-term and reduce the need for people to reach out to extremists for support.
